Role Summary The Sr Business Partner, BP&N is an independent business partner who develops and executes negotiation strategies for assigned categories and supplier relationships. This role applies strong financial, analytical and negotiation capabilities to identify value opportunities, assess vendor profitability, guide merchants through negotiation processes and deliver sustainable business outcomes for Target. The Sr Business Partner independently determines how to execute the work within established BP&N practices, business objectives and an assigned category scope. The role may support complex negotiations and high-value business opportunities. Level is distinguished by the degree of ambiguity, breadth of impact, stakeholder complexity and independent strategic judgment required by the assigned portfolio. Core Responsibilities Develop and execute negotiation strategies for assigned categories and supplier relationships, translating business objectives, financial analysis and merchant priorities into clear negotiation plans. Analyze vendor profitability, cost structures, business performance and relevant internal benchmarks to identify value creation opportunities and inform negotiation positions. Partner with and guide merchants through the negotiation process, including preparation, strategy development, supplier engagement, agreement development and follow-through. Interact directly with suppliers to support effective and ethical negotiations, resolve issues and advance mutually sustainable business outcomes. Maintain a negotiation and value creation roadmap for assigned businesses, proactively prioritizing opportunities, risks, supplier engagements, and key business milestones throughout the year. Develop trusted partnerships with merchants by proactively identifying opportunities, challenging assumptions, providing a clear point of view, and influencing decisions that improve business outcomes. Support competitive line reviews and other negotiation events by providing analysis, preparation, facilitation and recommendations appropriate to the assigned business. Synthesize complex financial, category and supplier information into concise insights and recommendations for merchants and leadership teams. Maintain strong knowledge of assigned categories, suppliers, negotiation practices and business performance to improve the quality and effectiveness of BP&N support. Share expertise, tools and relevant learnings with peers to strengthen consistent execution across the BP&N team. Scope and Decision Making Owns BP&N work independently within an assigned category or portfolio and is accountable for the quality and effectiveness of recommendations and execution. Determines the approach to work within established practices, with alignment on key business objectives, material risks and major decision points. Solves defined to moderately complex business problems by synthesizing financial, category, supplier and stakeholder inputs. Escalates or seeks alignment when issues materially exceed assigned scope, involve significant enterprise tradeoffs or require a new approach outside established practices. Assigned scope may include highly strategic national-brand supplier portfolios requiring management of complex commercial negotiations, partnership plans, promotional investments, cost management initiatives and long-range value creation opportunities. About You Four-year degree or equivalent experience. 2+ years of relevant experience in negotiation, merchandising, finance, planning, sourcing, procurement, business development or a related discipline. Strong negotiation, financial analysis and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into clear business recommendations. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and execute effectively within an assigned business scope. Strong communication and partnership skills, with the ability to influence merchants, suppliers and cross-functional partners. Sound judgment, curiosity and the ability to identify opportunities while balancing business objectives, relationships and risk. Commitment to ethical negotiation practices and sustainable value creation.   This position will require in office presence in downtown Minneapolis Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week, while working from on home on Friday will be an option.
