About the role
Key Responsibilities Serves as point of contact for district managers, store managers, and receiving department for all load quality, scheduling, and service-related issues Manages driver capacity to support freight volumes, store service, and equipment availability for DC loading Optimizes the utilization of the dedicated fleet to improve and generate backhaul savings to reduce freight expense Collaborates with vendors to improve efficiencies for the dedicated carriers Manages DC inbound scheduling and problem resolution Ensures load management data in transportation management system (TMS) is accurate for timely payment to carrier partners (i.e., Freight Pay management) Prepares and executes annual budgets for RDC and FDC transportation operations Leverages financial reporting to manage costs and drive metrics performance Manages reverse logistics execution back into owning RDC to drive freight savings Communicates carrier partner wrecks and thefts and coordinates with Asset Protection and corporate as appropriate Adheres to and promotes all DC safety policies and procedures Serves as the Lowe’s transportation subject matter expert for all issues within the region Partners with DC Operations to maximize cube per trailer to reduce transportation costs Utilizes transportation management system (TMS) Drives service performance and cost efficiencies through carrier partnerships and develops improvement action plans where necessary Supports RDC Planning and Operations partners through effective equipment management, carrier support, and yard management Resolves driver issues on the yard as they arise to ensure safe operations Resolves Container/Import issues as needed related to seals verifications, dwell time on yard, container pools Oversees the visitor center and successful gate process execution Assists associates with HR related issues including questions/concerns with attendance, pay, benefits, job changes, voluntary terminations, I-9 verification, unemployment claims, and workplace accommodations Attracts and hires talented individuals for the team Hires, trains, mentors, and develops Assistant Transportation Manager and Transportation Supervisors Sets goals and communicates clear expectations for associates and provides timely and constructive feedback Monitors and manages associate performance, holding them accountable to expected behaviors and performance levels Provides resources and support to associates as needed Communicates effectively with associates regarding business objectives or current issues Provides associates with meaningful developmental opportunities and prepares them for upward promotion if interested Sponsors and leads associates through change Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Transportation, Supply Chain Management, or related field or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education requirement, if applicable 3 Years Experience in distribution center operations or related area (or 7 years of experience in distribution center/warehouse operations or related area with increasing responsibilities if education requirement not met) Leadership experience with direct report responsibility Experience in mentoring and coaching others Preferred Qualifications Experience using data management system (Lowe’s DMS preferred) Experience managing budgets or contributing to the budget planning process Experience using troubleshooting processes to resolve problems Experience as a Supervisor in the Lowe’s Supply Chain Network Experience building a culture of safety among subordinates and peers Experience working with JDA About Lowe’s Lowe's Companies, Inc.
