About the role

50 states. Multiple environmental regulations. One auditor who knows how to see the big picture — and get the details right.   Leidos is looking for an experienced Environmental Compliance Auditor to help lead and grow our environmental auditing programs across the country, supporting federal agencies and commercial clients with complex environmental compliance challenges.   Across Leidos, we help government and commercial organizations navigate environmental regulations, manage risk, and improve operational performance. In this role, you'll take that expertise directly to facilities nationwide — evaluating environmental compliance, identifying risks, advising clients, and helping organizations strengthen their environmental programs.   This isn't a role where you'll simply work through an audit checklist. You'll lead multimedia environmental compliance audits from start to finish — researching regulatory requirements, evaluating facility operations, identifying deficiencies, and delivering technically sound findings and practical recommendations that help clients achieve and sustain compliance.   We're looking for more than a great auditor. We're looking for a consultant. Someone who can walk into a facility, quickly understand its operations, ask the right questions, recognize what matters, and communicate findings with credibility and confidence. Someone who takes pride in getting the details right, holds themselves and others to a high standard, and builds the kind of client relationships that lead to repeat business.   You'll also help shape what's next. As our environmental auditing programs continue to grow, you'll take on increasing project leadership responsibilities, mentor other auditors, strengthen client partnerships, and help identify new opportunities to expand our services — particularly in Texas and West Coast markets.   The travel is significant, and it's part of what makes this role unique. You'll work at government and commercial facilities throughout the United States and U.S. territories, with audits typically conducted Monday through Friday. Travel generally begins Sunday or Monday, with a return home on Friday. Consecutive weeks of travel may be required.   What you'll own: The audit, start to finish. You'll independently plan and lead multimedia environmental compliance audits at government and commercial facilities — from pre-audit research and regulatory reviews to facility inspections, personnel interviews, documentation reviews, and final reporting. The regulatory picture. You'll evaluate compliance with federal, state, local, and agency-specific environmental requirements across air quality, drinking water, wastewater and stormwater, hazardous materials, solid and hazardous waste, storage tanks, spill prevention, and toxic substances. The findings that matter. You'll look beyond identifying violations to understand root causes, recognize positive practices, and develop clear, defensible findings and corrective action recommendations that drive meaningful, lasting improvements. The quality of the work. You'll set a high standard for technical accuracy, consistency, and completeness — reviewing your own work and that of other auditors to ensure every finding, report, and client deliverable is accurate, defensible, and ready for submission. The client conversation. You'll lead entrance and exit briefings, present findings to facility managers and senior leadership, explain regulatory requirements, and provide practical guidance and training that helps clients improve compliance. The project execution. You'll help manage audit schedules, budgets, resources, team coordination, and deliverables — taking on increasing responsibility for project performance as our programs expand. The team. You'll guide and mentor less experienced auditors, share technical expertise, and help build a team known for professionalism, sound judgment, and exceptional work quality. The client relationship. You'll serve as a trusted advisor who understands the client's operations, anticipates challenges, and brings solutions rather than simply identifying problems. The growth. You'll look beyond the current audit to identify emerging client needs, strengthen existing relationships, support proposals, and help expand Leidos' environmental compliance services across government and commercial markets, particularly in Texas and along the West Coast.   What you'll bring: A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field with at least 4 years of progressively responsible environmental compliance auditing or assessment experience. Demonstrated experience independently leading multimedia environmental compliance audits, from planning and fieldwork through findings development, reporting, and client briefings. Strong knowledge of federal environmental regulations, including RCRA, CAA, CWA, SDWA, OPA, EPCRA, TSCA, and CERCLA, along with working knowledge of applicable state and local requirements. The ability to interpret complex environmental regulations, evaluate facility operations, identify compliance gaps, and develop practical, technically defensible recommendations. A proven track record of producing high-quality technical reports and conducting thorough QA/QC reviews, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple audits, competing priorities, and deadlines without sacrificing quality. Leadership capabilities, including experience guiding or mentoring others and the ability to take on increasing project management responsibility. Experience or demonstrated aptitude in coordinating project schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables. Strong consulting and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility quickly, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and represent Leidos professionally in client-facing environments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience delivering formal technical briefings and presenting findings to facility and senior leadership. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using environmental audit databases or electronic compliance reporting systems. The ability to work independently, exercise sound professional judgment, and deliver results with limited supervision. The willingness and ability to travel 50%–75% nationwide , including consecutive weeks of travel, to support environmental compliance programs across the United States and U.S. territories. Must have a valid driver's license.   What sets you apart: Professional certifications or training such as Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or ISO 14001:2015 Auditor/Lead Auditor. Experience conducting multimedia environmental compliance audits for federal agencies, the Department of Defense, or other government organizations. Experience leading audit teams, managing technical tasks, or supporting project delivery on federal or commercial environmental services contracts. A history of developing high-quality audit reports, corrective action plans, compliance training materials, and other environmental regulatory deliverables. Experience growing existing client accounts, identifying new consulting opportunities, supporting proposals, or expanding environmental compliance programs. Established client relationships, professional networks, or environmental consulting experience in Texas or West Coast markets. A reputation for technical excellence, exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to turn complex regulatory requirements into practical solutions for clients.   Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation; due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent residency is required . **Please be advised that during the interview, you will be required to keep your camera on, and your interviewer will be taking your picture for identification purposes if an offer letter is extended to you.** If you're looking for comfort, keep scrolling.
