Job Description The Project Engineer — General Safety is responsible for performing all engineering duties relating to certifying client’s products to applicable safety standards, serving as the technical lead for the project. Responsibilities Technical owner of multiple projects – collaborate and support Project Manager (PM) to ensure project deliverables are completed within the project deadlines. Technical representative between client and SGS – provide client updates on key milestones of a project, hold technical meetings with clients, prepare letter reports,. Perform construction review of products against standards such as UL 62368-1, UL 60730-1, IEC 61010-1, UL 508/UL 61800-5-1, UL 972, and related vertical/end-product standards. Author and review Test Report Forms (TRFs) and CDF (Construction Data Form) documentation in CB and UL Scheme formats, ensuring accurate clause mapping and verdicts. Author compliance correspondence, including position letters and technical justifications for certification decisions when challenged by clients or third parties. Develop test plan for construction, electrical, and mechanical safety testing, including dielectric withstand, ground continuity, abnormal operation, temperature rise, and mechanical strength/impact testing. Lab reviewer for test data/results output by lab technicians. Provide guidance to lab technicians for setup and execution of complex tests. Support RFQ scoping and certification proposals, helping determine applicable standards, test scope, and realistic timelines for new client programs. Conduct factory/field follow-up inspections as needed to support ongoing certification surveillance. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. 2-5 years experience in product safety testing, compliance engineering, engineer in the following technical field (e.g., NRTL/TIC laboratory, R&D, V&V). Working familiarity with at least three of the following: UL 62368-1, UL 60730-1, IEC 61010-1, UL 508, UL 972, UL 1081, UL 1559. Experience in IEC 60601-1 is a plus. Understanding of NRTL certification processes, CB Scheme (IECEE) documentation conventions, and basic CE marking/Low Voltage Directive concepts. Comfortable with standard lab instrumentation: hipot/dielectric testers, ground bond testers, thermocouples/data loggers, leakage current tester, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, mechanical test fixtures, force gauge, tensile tester. Ability to travel up to 10–15% as business needs dictate. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written; strong technical writing for TRFs, CDFs, and client-facing correspondence. Self-motivated, able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with strong organization and time-management skills. Microsoft Office software experience required. Must be customer-focused and quality-driven. Additional Information Compensation The expected salary for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 per year. This range represents the minimum and maximum base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role. Actual compensation within the range will depend on skills, experience, and qualifications.
