Company Overview Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables. Job Summary We are seeking an IT Systems Administrator II to support and maintain our cloud, on-premises, and SaaS platforms. This role is responsible for the administration, security, automation, and optimization of enterprise infrastructure across AWS, Microsoft, and on-premises environments. The successful candidate will partner with business stakeholders and software vendors to support business-critical applications, upgrades, integrations, and implementations while ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of underlying infrastructure and services. The ideal candidate has experience supporting enterprise infrastructure in a regulated environment and embraces an automation-first approach to systems administration, leveraging Infrastructure as Code, scripting, and modern IT operational practices. Responsibilities Install, configure, administer, maintain, and optimize infrastructure, services, and applications across AWS, SaaS, and on-premises environments. Administer and support Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, DNS, DHCP, file services, identity management, and Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations. Develop, maintain, and improve automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, PowerShell, or similar technologies Monitor system health, performance, security, and availability; investigate and troubleshoot complex infrastructure, cloud, identity, and application issues. Implement and maintain security controls, patch management, vulnerability remediation, and least-privilege access practices. Provide technical support for business-critical enterprise applications and collaborate with business stakeholders and software vendors to support operations, integrations, upgrades, and implementations. Participate in change management activities and support application and infrastructure deployments, migrations, testing, upgrades, and production changes. Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, procedures, and knowledge base articles. Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to employees and junior IT staff. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications 5+ years of progressively responsible experience as a Systems Administrator, Cloud Administrator, Site Reliability Engineer, or similar role in a complex enterprise environment Strong experience administering Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365 services, identity management, and SSO integrations, Working knowledge of Linux server administration in AWS and hybrid-cloud environments Demonstrated experience administering AWS infrastructure, including services such as EC2, IAM, VPC, Route 53, Systems Manager, FSx, CloudWatch, and related AWS technologies Strong scripting and automation experience using PowerShell and AWS CLI Experience supporting SaaS, cloud-native, hybrid-cloud, and on-premises applications and infrastructure Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred 8+ years of overall IT experience is preferred Terraform and Ansible experience is preferred Nutanix AHV administration experience is preferred Advanced Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory administration experience is preferred Experience supporting application integrations, APIs, SQL databases, and reporting platforms is preferred Experience working with software vendors during upgrades, implementations, and troubleshooting efforts is preferred Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, or quality-focused organizations is preferred Experience working in high-growth organizations undergoing technology transformation is preferred Prior work experience in a fast-paced, high-growth startup is preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of networking, databases, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery concepts Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, vulnerability management, patch management, and security best practices Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills Resourceful problem-solver with a service-oriented mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of cloud and hybrid infrastructure administration principles, including AWS, Microsoft, SaaS, and on-premises environments Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, scripting, and systems automation practices Knowledge of identity and access management principles, including Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Single Sign-On, and least-privilege access Ability to monitor and assess system health, performance, availability, and capacity across enterprise infrastructure and services Knowledge of change management practices related to infrastructure and application deployments, migrations, upgrades, and production changes Ability to support and coordinate application integrations, implementations, and upgrades across internal stakeholders and third-party vendors Ability to develop and maintain technical standards, procedures, and system administration documentation Ability to provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to employees and less-experienced IT staff Physical Demands Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods Communicating with others to exchange information Environmental Conditions General office environment Noisy environments Prototyping/Test Facilities Manufacturing/Industrial Environments Travel Some travel may be required, up to 5% Additional Requirements Occasionally requires working weekends Occasionally requires extended hours to support system maintenance, deployments, upgrades, and critical incidents The salary range for this position is $108,700 to $127,900 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters.
