About the role

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block. The Role Block’s Business Resilience is part of the Security Governance Risk and Compliance team. The Business Resilience helps ensure that critical products, services, operations, and supporting technology can continue through disruption and recover within expected timeframes. The team partners across business, technology, risk, compliance, legal, regional entities, and third-party teams to identify resilience risks, validate recovery capabilities, support governance expectations, and drive practical remediation. This role will help operate and mature Block’s resilience program across business continuity, disaster recovery, crisis management, operational resilience, third-party resilience, testing, reporting, and regulatory compliance support. The role requires someone who can translate resilience requirements into clear business and technology actions, communicate risk in a practical way, and support accountable owners through testing, remediation, and governance. The ideal candidate is also comfortable improving how resilience work gets done. They should be able to identify manual or repeatable workflows, support AI-enabled and automation opportunities, improve reporting and dashboards, help administer resilience tooling, and build scalable templates, evidence processes, and self-service mechanisms that reduce friction while improving quality, auditability, and regulatory confidence. You Will Identify resilience risks across critical services, business functions, technology, and dependencies, including risks introduced by business, regulatory, or industry changes. Develop and maintain current, testable business continuity, disaster recovery, and crisis management plans aligned with recovery objectives, strategies, and resource needs. Coordinate resilience exercises and recovery tests, report findings, and partner with accountable owners to track remediation through completion. Assess third-party continuity and recovery capabilities, identify gaps, and support remediation. Communicate resilience posture, open risks, and decisions needed to governance forums, senior leaders, and Boards, and support audit, regulatory, customer, and RFP requests. Partner with regional entities, including the UK, EU, and Canada, to align global practices with local requirements and reduce duplication through shared controls, evidence, and reporting. Improve resilience workflows through AI, automation, dashboards, templates, and self-service tools, supporting requirements, testing, adoption, and troubleshooting with appropriate data, access, auditability, and human review controls. You Have 6+ years of experience operating or improving global resilience, business continuity, disaster recovery, crisis management, or related risk programs, ideally in financial services or regulated technology. Strong knowledge of impact analysis, dependency mapping, recovery strategies, testing, remediation, and governance, with experience applying relevant standards or regulatory expectations (i.e. ISO22301, BS11200, FFIEC, EBA, FCI, CBI, or RPAA). Strong project management, organizational, and partnership skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and dependencies and drive cross-functional follow-through without direct authority. Excellent communication and analytical judgment, with the ability to translate complex risks and requirements into practical actions for technical, business, executive, and Board-level audiences. Comfort using AI, automation, data analysis, and reporting tools, with the ability to learn and administer new platforms, document processes, and translate stakeholder needs into workflow improvements. A relevant professional certification, such as those from DRI International or the Business Continuity Institute, or equivalent practical experience.
