About the role
About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role New hires join Anthropic every week; their first days here shape how they understand our mission and culture, and help to accelerate their time to productivity. We're looking for a Program Manager to own the live delivery of our new hire onboarding program, so that every cohort, whatever its size or timing, gets an experience that is well run, welcoming, and grounded in what makes Anthropic distinctive. You'll own our San Francisco onboarding program end to end: facilitating sessions, overseeing the operating rhythm behind each cohort, and orchestrating across Recruiting, People Services, Workplace, IT, and the many presenters who bring the program to life. You'll work within our overall onboarding strategy and program design, and your job is to deliver our live onboarding program reliably, week after week, while spotting where the experience can get better and feeding those insights into how the program evolves. This role suits someone who loves the craft of running a great program: the preparation, the moments in the room, and the systems that make it all repeatable at scale. You'll do well here if you stay calm when plans change, care deeply about the details that shape a first impression, and bring warmth and clarity to a room of people on their first day. This role requires being in the office at least two days a week – on all programming days and as needed otherwise. Key responsibilities Own weekly program delivery: Run each onboarding cohort from pre-arrival readiness through program close, so every cohort gets a consistent, high-quality experience Facilitate live sessions: Serve as the primary facilitator and host for every cohort, setting the tone for new hires and keeping the program on time and on message Support presenters and facilitators: Brief and prepare the speakers, panelists, and backup facilitators who deliver program content, so sessions land well regardless of who is in the room; deliver feedback as needed and support content iteration Oversee cross-functional execution: Partner closely with the NHO coordinator to coordinate across Recruiting, People Services, Workplace, IT, and AV, so that start dates, device readiness, rooms, catering, and communications come together each week Set the weekly operating rhythm: Prioritize and sequence program logistics and coordination work each week, making sure nothing falls through the cracks Support improvements to the program's operating system: Partner closely with the NHO coordinator to improve run-of-show documents, checklists, playbooks, and automations that make the program repeatable, reduce single points of failure, and flex with variable cohort sizes Track program health: Monitor operational and experience metrics via new hire feedback, surface trends and friction points, and bring recommendations that inform program design and priorities Drive content improvement: Based on new hire feedback and company needs, work with facilitators and the broader onboarding team to iterate on and improve program content over time Plan ahead for what could change: Anticipate cohort size swings, holidays, space constraints, and last-minute changes, with contingency plans ready before they're needed Minimum qualifications Interest in Anthropic's mission and in helping new hires connect their work to it Extensive experience owning the end-to-end delivery of a recurring program, event series, or training program with many stakeholders Advanced experience facilitating or presenting to large groups, in person and virtually Strong project management skills, including building and running timelines, trackers, and checklists in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Calendar) or similar tools Working proficiency with Slack and Google Workspace Exceptional written and verbal communication, including communications for audiences ranging from new hires to senior leaders Demonstrated ability to coordinate across teams without formal authority to meet fixed, recurring deadlines Preferred qualifications Experience running onboarding, orientation, or learning and development programs in a fast-growing organization Experience scaling a program's cadence or volume, such as moving from biweekly to weekly delivery, while maintaining quality Experience building workflows or automations with AI tools like Claude to reduce manual work Familiarity with program measurement, including survey tools (such as Qualtrics), feedback analysis, and reporting on program metrics Experience managing a bench or rotation of presenters, facilitators, or volunteer contributors The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $240,000 - $240,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
