About the role
This position is responsible for developing and maintaining integration features across both modern and legacy environments. You will design and deliver new APIs and event-driven services while also working directly within our established .NET codebases, including monolithic applications, to deliver integrations efficiently and with high quality. The ideal candidate is a skilled engineer capable of executing integration tasks independently, adept at navigating between newer and legacy codebases, and eager to grow into a long-term steward of MeridianLink’s integration strategy. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers and architects committed to supporting your technical growth as the platform evolves. About the Opportunity Within the first few months, a successful hire will deliver integration features for both modern services and existing applications, complete with robust testing, high-quality code reviews, and predictable production behavior. Throughout the first year, you’ll become a trusted owner of specific integrations, make significant contributions to the enterprise integration platform, and play a role in onboarding Engineer I colleagues. Your long-term impact will be measured by the reliability and quality of your integrations, the team’s increased delivery speed for customer integrations, and how effectively you document and share your knowledge. What it means to be an Engineer II at MeridianLink Engineer IIs independently handle a wide range of assignments, from addressing bug fixes to developing new features. They develop and focus on specializations, consistently produce trustworthy code, ask insightful questions, and begin assisting peers. Engineer IIs at MeridianLink are daily users of AI-assisted development tools, leveraging them throughout their workflows. Key Responsibilities Build & Deliver Integrations - Build integration features, RESTful APIs, and shared libraries in line with established contracts and architectural patterns, including event-driven and asynchronous processes developed by the team - Enhance and maintain integration logic within existing product applications, including monolithic systems, to accelerate the delivery of customer integrations - Contribute to the evolution and adherence of the team’s API standards covering versioning, contracts, and deprecation - Deliver scoped designs into deployed, functional solutions Own Your Work End to End - Thoroughly test work before progressing, write unit and integration tests, and help ensure adequate acceptance and end-to-end coverage - Maintain ownership of your work through all stages of the SDLC to production, addressing any production issues as they arise - Meet the team’s standards for code quality and test coverage before code review - Take part in the team’s support and on-call rotation for the integrations managed by the group Contribute to the Platform Direction - Collaborate on the architecture and development of MeridianLink’s enterprise integration platform as it advances towards production - Identify recurring integration patterns in existing products for adoption as shared platform services - Proactively highlight integration risks, blockers, and design gaps early in the process to facilitate resolution during design Collaboration & Growing Others - Actively participate in design discussions and code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback in a constructive manner - Support the onboarding of Engineer I teammates; provide context and help them overcome obstacles - Contribute to documentation that helps the team share knowledge and reduce reliance on unwritten expertise Qualifications Technical Execution & Delivery - Independently completes assigned features and bug fixes, needing only minimal day-to-day oversight - Designs components within a clearly defined scope, escalating more complex system design questions as needed - Engages in code reviews and offers constructive feedback - Proactively communicates blockers rather than waiting for scheduled check-ins Craft & Professionalism - Writes tests that thoroughly cover the delivered functionality - Monitors and quickly responds to issues related to their work - Documents technical decisions and implementation details for future reference by others Integration Engineering - Understands how APIs, contracts, and versioning maintain stable integrations as connected systems evolve - Builds both synchronous and asynchronous integration flows and recognizes which approach best suits specific scenarios - Troubleshoots issues across service boundaries, efficiently tracing integration failures to their root cause Working Across New and Established Code - Navigates smoothly between modern .NET services and established .NET Framework codebases - Delivers safe, thoroughly tested updates within large monolithic applications - Translates current integration patterns to align with strategic platform directions, building solutions that ease future transitions AI-Assisted Engineering - Utilizes modern AI coding harnesses daily (such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or Pi) with an understanding of agents: models paired with harnesses - Applies AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle—from coding and reviews to test and documentation generation - Actively shares effective AI-driven development practices with teammates Required Experience - 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, independently delivering features in production environments - Strong grasp of algorithms, data structures, and core software design principles - Proficiency with standard development tools including Git, Docker, automated testing, and modern scripting languages - Consistent daily use of AI-assisted development tools - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience - Expertise in C# and the .NET ecosystem, including significant experience with .NET Framework codebases - Experience developing or supporting production APIs and integration features - Experience working within large, established codebases - Daily hands-on use of modern AI coding harnesses (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, or similar), with practical understanding of agents (model plus harness) - Experience creating unit and integration tests, including leveraging AI tools during test development Preferred Qualifications - Experience deploying and operating applications on Azure - Familiarity with event-driven architectures or enterprise messaging patterns - Understanding of event streaming platforms and asynchronous processing models - Knowledge of distributed systems fundamentals such as scaling, data storage, and fault tolerance - Experience with API gateway solutions and managing API lifecycles, including versioning and contracts - Background in writing acceptance and end-to-end tests, with Playwright experience a plus - In-depth understanding of harness mechanics, including memory, tool calls, and hooks, and their influence on agent behavior - Familiarity with VB.NET - Experience integrating with third-party or external partner systems - Prior work in fintech or financial services environments
